The William Ward Watkin and Annie Ray Watkin University Archives contain the historical records of Rice University. The Woodson Research Center preserves non-current records from administrative offices, Rice presidents, academic departments, residential colleges, and student organizations.
The university archive (UA) collections also include:
- campus plans, drawings and blueprints
- photographs
- publications, including the Rice Thresher student newspaper
- video and audiotapes
- ephemeral material
- memorabilia
Each university archival collection has a finding aid, which is a descriptive guide designed to assist researchers in understanding the contents of each collection. The finding aid often includes a collection inventory along with important context, such as biographical information. Some collection materials are available for viewing in our reading room; others have been digitized in our institutional repository or other places online.
