In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include --

(1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes

Please note that all projects supported by the DMC must abide by Rice's intellectual property and computer usage policy. The complete text of Rice's Appropriate Use of Computer Resources Policy is online

If you need to show video clips in your classroom, please contact teaching@rice.edu  and someone from Learning Environments will be happy to discuss options.  The DVD or VHS movie would need to be owned by either Fondren Library or the course professor.
