Fondren Library is not accepting gifts of books or other materials for the general collection while we review policies and workflows.
General collection gifts
In order to ensure our practices are sustainable and appropriate resources are applied consistently to gifts consistent with collection development goals, we are not accepting gifts of materials for the general collection at this time. Revised acceptance guidelines will be posted here when they are available. We are grateful for our patrons' interest in working with us on gift materials.
Special collections gifts
Gifts of rare or unique materials will be reviewed by specialists in the Woodson Research Center to determine if a donation meets collection criteria. Please visit Woodson Policies & Procedures for more information.
Alternatives for gift materials
There are many nonprofits which may be able to accept your gift materials. Consider donating your books to your local public library or community organization. Bellaire Public Library, 713-662-8160; Houston Public Library, 832-393-1387, used bookstores, or charitable organizations such as Books for Africa, Better World Books, and Houston's Books for Development. The Internet Archive also accepts donated books through mail and drop locations.
Financial Gifts
Fondren Library graciously accepts financial gifts and coordinates with the Rice University Office of Development, see Giving to Rice University. You may also want to join the Friends of Fondren Library where contributions both enhance the library and may also enable the donor to access library services and unique events.
